Photo: Arches on Zakinthos

Light winds meant a day mostly under power. After we left Argostoli at 0810, we headed for Zakinthos also know by its Italian name Zante. Passed dramatic arches along the NE coast where there were also several tripper boats carrying passengers thru these arches. We set the spinnaker for only 40 minutes but it was a nice sail. Arrived at 1440.

In the harbor "Denis" or Dionision Marinos directed us to a berthin the NW section of the wharf. Although we have only "med moored" a few times without lazy lines, we dropped the anchor and backed in with precision!

We were between a Jeanneau 57 headed for Samos and a trawler-type boat from Switzerland. Also a German and a French boat tied up. Not a lot of room left and this is low season. In high season Denis says to call him a day in advance -- +30 6974 149884 or 6993 779646. He takes care of everything. We took on fuel from a tanker truck but water at the dock is not potable.

Crew on the Jeanneau loaned us a town map and we hiked up to the Venetian fort. Steep path thru town streets and then on a path below the fort. Fort was closed - it was after 1500 but sign said it was a lack of security. Not sure if it is a long term economic closure or if we were too just late. Visited two churches along the way. Came down a path thru the woods that would be a mountain bikers delight--ramps, banked turns!

Back on board we invited Ann from the Jeanneau aboard for a drink - very enjoyable time. Ate at a tavern ashore.
