Hakai Luxbalis Conservatory has miles of deserted wilderness shoreline and spectacular white sand beaches.
It's a huge provincial park in BC's central coast.
There are many well protected areas in which to anchor. You can spend days relaxing on the beaches or exploring all the islands, inlets and bays with kayaks or a skiff.
The Spider Group (a small group of islands) is one of the most popular destinations in the park, however, I prefer the solitude of Kildidt Sound & it's many coves & inlets.
One of the nicest anchorages is in a small crevice in the Serpent Group of islands. This anchorage has a beautiful white sand beach and a lovely campsite. The west side of the island has colorful tidal pools and amazing views of the open pacific. It almost has the feel of the tropics.
During my first visit to the serpents, I had just gotten into the dinghy to go ashore when not 100ft away, I witnessed a bubble formation of humpbacks. My heart stopped as huge whales with mouths open shot up into the air. The fish were flying and the water was sparkling in the sunshine. The following year, nothing so dramatic, however, every morning I'd sit in the cockpit & listen to the grunts & groans of whales from almost every direction. I love this place!
Fuel, provisions and a full service marina can be found at Shear Water on Denny Island -just outside Haki Marine Park. The closest hospital is located in Bella Bella (First Nation's Reserve).
