Equinox: Southport bound to Bald Head Island

09 September 2013 | Swansboro, NC
Making preparations for SPARROW's first "Digital/Traditional Illustrated Logs" expedition.
September 22: Equinox
Sailing plan is to sail south, taking several legs and stop-overs along the way to destination Bald Head Island.
This will be an active/LIVE trekking voyage, so folks will be able to 'follow' us along the way via computer. Onboard we will carry both a Samsung 'smartphone' which can upload photos and relay data, but will also be used as a mobile HOTSPOT node so SPARROW's SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB can also be utilized for navigation.
We will be giving feedback to NOAA on their current beta-testing on their newly released digital charts converted from paper. We are on the edge of new technologies and want to be out there and on that wave of the future so as to send back messages of encouragement~
We will also be logging daily on a 4 hour watch interval both visually & text. We will log by alternating between digital and traditional entries. This documentation will be available online with trekking and will be eventually published in the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators Winter Journal.
