Mauputi to Suwarrow Island
Dietmar Petutschnig
08/06/2009, South Pacific

Between Maupiti and Suwarrow Island under 600 nm. to go - about 5 days at this speed ... no land, no vessel, nothing in sight ... pretty deep here 13500 ft. according to the charts ... the moon is pushing the last of the clouds away - winds are 10 - 12 knots from the SE - hoping for a little squall to clean the decks after the last rudder repair .

heard from "Follow You Follow me" our buddy boat - they are further ahead - more southwest with some difficult conditions and mountainous seas - en route to Nuie ( a one island nation ) - hang in there Allan and Rina - I hope it gets easier ...

our destination on the other hand is a one family atoll- under the control of New Zealand - although NZ is over 2,000 nm. away still. a caretaker will greet us according to the coconut net - there are 11 yachts enjoying the hospitality - entry through the pass can only be made under perfect conditions - lucky we have a tide chart for it ..

that's it for now from the 12 - 3 am watch - back to music and to scan the horizon

Leaving French Polynesia
Dietmar Petutschnig
08/02/2009, Bora-Bora

It's time - we have spent over 4 months in French Polynesia and are now ready for further sights. With all it's beauty - diversity and charm is difficult to leave - as it charms you to stay another day, week or month.

Our next port of call is Suwarrow in the Northern Cooks a 700 mile jump from Bora Bora and after that Samoa.

We will leave on Tuesday afternoon with our new crew - a boat well stocked and plot our course west.

This sunset is one of the many glorious ones experienced here in the Societies - a shot from my favorite Huahine across Tahaa with Bora-Bora's majestic peaks on the line.

Crew Changes
Dietmar Petutschnig
07/23/2009, Tahiti / Moorea

We are happy to welcome Chris and Sandy aboard SV Carinthia. The picture was taken after a 6 mile hike to Pointe Bellevue in Moorea. Sandy and Chris are both longtime skippers from Oregon / Arizona and are using the Mexican Hurricane season recess ("Faith" is on the hard in San Carlos) - to cruise with us in the South Pacific until mid October.

Kurt will rejoin us [hopefully] in early November for our journey to New Zealand where we plan on spending the Cyclone season until April 2010.

So there it is: Crew Changes.
