Squalls and More Squalls
07 November 2015
Ruud Bosman
OK, I know we have missed one day of your stimulating blog reading but we had our reasons. I'd mentioned before that we didn't know what the future held , well now we know: Squalls, 30-40kt winds, pelting rain, thunderstorms, big waves, wet clothes, uncomfortable sleeping but very interesting dreams. We think it is the less than gentle boat movement that help us dream about the more unusual aspects of life...!
Today the weather is a little more settled but still squally and gusty. We have actually reefed down quite a bit to reduce our speed as Chris Parker, our weather router, has strongly suggested that we stay North of lat 21N until some time on Sunday as a next line of squalls, this time with winds of 50kts and over is expected to move through. Seems prudent to try and avoid this...! We are enjoying a nice sunny day though and are now estimating the waves we are in at 10-15ft.
An electrical problem also prevented us from blog writing yesterday. Our generator tripped out on some over current condition that we couldn't trace down and correct. We are back up and running with this, however, one of he main generator functions is still out of service. Our OUTBACK battery charges are refusing to charge the batteries and we suspect that that was the reason for the generator tripping. We do however have 110ac power and can make water, send you emails etc. etc. WE are now using the main engine to charge the batteries.
Pretty interesting stuff, UH.
Because of our slow down we now expect to arrive in the BVI Monday instead of Sunday morning. But we figure, what's in a day, better safe than sorry.
Hope you are still reading this, I know your days are busy.
Captain Ruud.
