Founders Cup Race #4

10 February 2010 | Lake Ray Hubbard-Dallas, Texas
I mentioned winter sailing in my last post. Yes it is nice not to have to pull the boat for the winter, or do any kind of major winterizing, We do have to be careful about freezing so I use common sense. Every January Chandlers Landing Yacht Club on Lake Ray Hubbard holds it's Founders Cup Regatta. An event dating back to the 1970's. Only Problem this year is the club went dark about 4 months ago. A group of us sailors are keeping the event alive by sailing every Sunday at 1pm. It's cold but I have a great group of guys on board and although they are novices for the most part. We have a great time. For the record I have a coastal cruiser not a cruiser/racer nor racer like a Henderson or such. I have a Catalina 310. Nicknamed the floating condo or the dockamimimum. At least we generally don't place DFL (Dead F... Last). We have run in two out of the four races so far (there will be 7 total races) and have placed 4th overall, 5th overall and 1st in B fleet both times. Truth be told we have been the only boat in B fleet so far (Non-spinnaker). Enjoy the sail! Skipper Ken From Dallas!

Founders Cup 2010

Winter deep in the heart of Texas. I guess I should not complain as I get to sail year round on a 22,000 acre lake just east of Dallas, TX, but plans are in motion to get the S/V Juliet to the coast. More on that later. Right now getting ready for The Founders Cup Regatta sponsored by the now defunct Chandlers Landing Yacht Club. A group of us sailors are keeping the regatta alive without the support of a club base. Weather for tomorrows race looks like cool temperatures and great breeze. I have a great crew of novices who like to have fun and that is what we are all about-since the Catalina 310 is by no means a race boat, but the beer sure stays cold. Fairwinds for now. Skipper Ken
