Now that we have been in Nuka Hiva about a week, we find that there are at least two things that, for us, define this place.
One is the pomplemousse. This is a very large fruit not unlike the grapefruit. It has a very thin\ck rind and the fruit is very sweet. We got some in Fatu Hiva and more here for the trip to Tahiti.
The other thing unique is the music. They make beautiful ukuleles here. We bought one hand-made out of rosewood and inlaid with iron wood. It is tuned with the bottom string an octive lower than we are used to. So we are learning to play the uke. The strings are made from fishing line. This one has eight strings.
