An Overall View
20 November 2016 | Our Whole trip
Various
Our adventure started in 2009 when we left on the Caribbean 1500 in November. Before that we had sailed in the Chesapeake and our first big trip to Maine in 2005.
We did a delivery to the BVI in 2004 and then our first Caribbean 1500 in 2006 when we returned via Bermuda.
The map here shows our overall path starting in 2009 when we went from the Chesapeake to the Caribbean and on to Panama. Then in 2012 we went from Panama to New Zealand via Polynesia, Niue and Tonga. We did a new Zealand road trip and then spent a season in Fiji. The last leg began in New Zealand again in 2014 and to the Marshall Islands via Minerva, Tonga, Samoa, and Fiji. We completed the last leg starting in 2016 in June where Sam and Doug sailed to the Aleutians and on to Seward, Alaska and to Anacortes in Washington State using the Inland Passage in Alaska and British Columbia.

We arrived in Suva Fiji on June 17, 2013. After three weeks we left with Solstice for Beqa and anchored in Vaga and Malumu Bays. From there we sailed with Solstice to Leleuvia (near Ovalau and Levuka the old capital). We waited out a bongiwalu (8 days of win there) and then sailed to Makongai, Koro and then to Savusavu -- the Fiji sailing capital.
We stayed two weeks in Sausavu and then sailed to Viani Bay for a little over a week. Then we went to Kioa, Rambi and Matei, Taveuni. From Taveuni we returned to Savusavu to await new batteries to arrive by ship.
Opua New Zealand to Suva Fiji via Minerva Reef

We left Opua New Zealand on May 29, 2013 and arrived in Suva Fiji June 17, 2013. There were 30 boats leaving from Opua that day. Along the way we anchored 8 days in Minerva Reef south of Tonga. We planned to first go to Tonga and then Fiji but the wind from Minerva Reef made it very difficult to make the trip without motoring into the wind.
The large semicircle in the track is going around a large storm that formed after we left. Our weather router Bob McDavitt helped with this.
