Great Guana and Fowl Cay

We dropped anchor in Fishers Bay, Great Guana Cay from Monday to Thursday (Dec 5-8). When the wind picked up from the SW, we tucked up behind Dellas Cay for protection from the waves. Then the wind totally died and the bay was flat calm. It was so calm that we watched a turtle swimming around our anchor and nibble on the aptly named turtle grass on the sandy bottom. We took a short video which I posted on my Facebook page.
One morning Karrie and I kayaked around Dellas Cay and the shore of the peninsular between Fishers Bay and Settlement Harbour. Thursday afternoon we took advantage of the calm weather and sailed down to the Fowl Cay preserve, and I took the dinghy out to the reef to snorkel and take a few movies. Today’s picture is a frame capture of two spotfin butterflyfish from one of the movies. The sky was overcast most of the day, but the sun came out for a short time while I was in the water. The reef I was on is in about 20-30 feet of water and comes to within 3 feet of the surface. It has a lot of canyons and caves where some black and nassau grouper where hiding. Of course there was also the usual tropical fish such as parrotfish, wrasses, and butterflyfish, along with yellowtail snapper and bermuda chubs. It was a nice dive. Leaving Fowl Cay to return to Man-O-War, Karrie caught a small yellowtail snapper which we grilled for dinner.
