City of Light

09 September 2007
We arrive in Paris around 2:00 in the afternoon at Gare du Nord after a 4 hour train ride. We then head downstairs in the train station to the Paris Metro (subway) to figure out which train or trains we need to catch to get to the place we rented for the week in the Marais district of Paris. Fortunately, we find someone who speaks English and they kindly direct us to the correct trains, which takes us to our apartment near the Hotel de Ville on the Right Bank. It is a small, one bedroom apartment that barely has enough places for 5 to sleep, similar to our boat, but it is located in a convenient location. We can walk to Notre Dame, the Louvre, and many other places. We are on the third floor of the building. That day (and, as it turns out, for the rest of the week), the weather is very pleasant, mostly clear and cool at night, and around 70 degrees F during the day. There are not many tourists in Paris, other that those that have showed up to watch the beginning of the World Rugby Cup (the U.S. is out early after losses to Tonga and Samoa).
