Indian River

On Monday our tour guide Martin rowed us up the Indian River. This river is part of a protected national park where no motorized vehicles are allowed. The river is overhung with huge Bloodwood trees with gigantic buttress roots that spread out from the land into the water, Palms, Mangoes, vines dangling across the river, birds, and more flowers then I could possible name in this blog.
At the head of the river we walked a path where Martin told us more about the vegetation and pointed out flowers. He also cut down and opened a coconut with his machete and shared it with us. There was a remote jungle bar there too, where some of us drank this peanut punch with rum and some kind of jungle fruit. I don't know what the proof was but it was quite good.
We were overwhelmed with this amazing adventure, and I believe Martin too was very appreciative of the day as he rowed us home. He then burst out in song, treating us to the Dominican National Anthem which is a heartwarming song about this lush green island.

I have a friend that went to med school in Dominica. What is Market Day? Good rum drinks?

Is it your first time in Guadeloupe? Never been myself. It looked like all the roofs were red in your earlier picture. Are they clay tiles? We hit 60 degrees yesterday! Back to normal weather today and tomorrow but into the 50's next week. The flower show is going on now on Fore Street. Boat show next week. I'm sure Dennis remembers how much fun those 2 things are....

What a picture perfect harbor.
Looking forward to Cafe au Lait, pain du chocolate, fromage et vin... Yumm I love French food. I must have French genes somewhere in the mix.

Sweet

03/06/2012, Guadaloupe - Lee side

We were on our way done from Deshailes, Guadaloupe today, cruising down the west (lee) side of the island toward Isles des Saints. Heidi summed up the situation when she said, "It doesn't get any sweeter than this ... 7.4 knots and we are on the rhumb line!" Squalls be damned ... I couldn't agree more!
