A Day in Beaufort & What's Next

08 May 2006 | Beaufort, SC

The image above is of the container ship Anne mentioned in the previous update....

We decided to let a few more Beaufort tides pass under our keel. We paid for a days worth of internet service both spent the morning checking weather, checking e-mails, and creating this blog. After realizing we had consumed half the day sitting on the boat, we caught a ride from the generous dockmaster, Joe, over to town in a fruitless effort to find a replacement power cable for our satellite radio. While the power cord was a downer, exploring the historic Beaufort was delightful. Never new so many movies were filmed here. Forces of Nature, Forest Gump, Big Chill, Prince of Tides. and littered everywhere are historical markers about this Civil War thing. We capped off our day ashore by going to see Mission Impossible III. Guess gazing upon all those historic movie sets in town inspired us to hit the cinema.

The tidal & route gods are shining upon us. If we head out of Factory Creek tomorrow around 10:00 then we should benefit from ebbing tides while making our way north up the ICW to the
Ashepoo River. We hope to put down the hook (boat speak for drop the anchor) near North Edisto River inlet. We will head out the inlet on the high slack tide around 08:00 the next morning. The winds should be in our favor to spend the next 24 to 36 hours sailing non-stop to the Cape Fear River. around 120 nautical miles from Edisto Rivers. If things don't go as well as planned then we will bail out to Winyah Bay, SC.

Based on my previous experience with Cape Fear winds and tides, I a bit intimidated by about running that inlet. I'll be happy when C'est la Vie and crew enter Snow Cut.

Enough for now. Hope everyone enjoys the blog. We will provide and update as soon as we find another connection. hopefully in NC!
