On a day that marks the victory of the Mexican Army over the French at the Battle of Puebla - Cinco de Mayo. Wait a minute... what is this Cinco de Mayo thing anyway...Yes today marks the victory of the Mexican Army of the French at the Battle of Puebla. Although the Mexican army was eventually defeated, the "Batalla de Puebla" became a symbol of Mexican unity and patriotism. With this victory, Mexico demonstrated to the world that Mexico and all of Latin America were willing to defend themselves against any foreign intervention. Especially intervention from imperialist states bent on world conquest. Hmm... dare I go any further into drawing parallels between this Mexican Holiday - recognized in bars across the USA - and current imperialist states bent on world conquest. No this is a sailing blog not a political one. Where was I?
Yes, yes on this Cinco de Mayo we are continuing to motor and sail north up the ICW. We are attempting to reach St. Augustine before the winds turn north and the weather deteriorates.
