Georgetown Lighthouse

We awoke to a gray morning. Gathering up motivation to swim ashore for some exploration demanded a team effort. We overcame and wandered our way down to the lighthouse. Unlike most lighthouses along the SE coastline this light is in a sad state of decay. The surrounding buildings are suffering from vandalism. Living among the beautifully maintained lighthouses of North Carolina this seems a tragic chapter for the Georgetown Light. I captured the image above by kneeling on the beach using the dunes and their flora to eclipse the decaying buildings.
Strange goings on in the water just off shore cut our exploration short. The incoming tide (yes it did finally turn) carried along an overturned powerboat. Some anglers tied onto the 20+ foot boat and were attempting to haul it ashore against the strong tidal current. Their focused efforts did not extend beyond the task at hand. Anne and I quickly realized their efforts were pulling the entire fiasco onto a collision course with C'est la Vie anchored mile downstream. We ran back down the beach.
Anchor stowed and motoring away we looked back. The efforts to haul the skiff ashore now involve two power boats tethered to the overturned craft. The entire flotilla continued to drift towards our now vacant anchorage. As the scene faded into the gray haze, Anne and I speculated what they boaters would do once they reached shore flood craft still riding the increasing tidal flow.
Coffee warmed us as we motored towards the ICW.
