Project Day (a.k.a. the rain kept falling)

02 September 2007 | Caper's Creek, SC
Jeff
The decision to stay tucked into Caper's Creek was not difficult. NOAA is announcing any body of water larger than a duck pond is under small craft advisories. Our snug little anchorage has 1+ foot whitecaps. The waves in our anchorage only present an issue at slack tides when the winds quarrel with current over control of C'est la Vie's heading. This causes her to turn her beam (side) to the waves and we roll back and forth. Fortunately this only happens once every six hours and only lasts about an hour. On a gray dreary day full of inside projects this effect every six hours became an impromptu clock. Hmm... boats rolling must be time for lunch... hmm boats rocking dinner anyone?

Anne finished up the final Harry Potter Book before the midday boat rolling and spent the next six hour window doing bead work.

I spent the morning tracing wires, cleaning contacts, and sleuthing through C'est la Vie's grounding, alternator, and battery wires. As a by-product of attempting to figure our quirky new high output alternator, I realized we are over charging our gel batteries. Yep, I read The 12 Volt Bible this morning. Great resource, but a bit to oversimplified. It offered just enough information to assist me in figuring out I've got some electrical issues, but not enough to bring me to a complete solution. I hope we travel tomorrow the more time I spend digging through the wiring the more dollar signs keep ringing up in my head. The sky's overhead and NOAA's voice on the VHF lead us to believe tomorrow will be a travel day.
