Allen's Cays

Here is an image of our first anchorage in the Exumas. The Allen Cay group is a popular first stop for boats entering the Exumas from Nassau or Eluthera. The anchorage is small, four to five boats, but well sheltered with good holding in sand. Snorkeling sites are abundant. Leaf Cay, from which this image was captured, is home to a large colony of rock iguanas. Fast boat tours from Nassau bring tourists to the island twice a day. The tours feed the iguanas grapes. Hence the iguanas are very habituated and storm the beach when people land on the cay. The effect of numerous large lizards creeping out of the scrub when we made landfall was a bit intimidating.
