Journey from Annapolis Maryland

Ev and I arrived in Port Kerwin on the SOuthern Shore of Newfoundland to meet our First Mates for a sail to St. John's. It was a rocking horse rolly trip in the fog and cold. The Range Lights at the Narrows to St. John's was a welcomed sight. Libations and food were the order of the evening when we got tied up at the Small Boat Basin at Prossers Rock!! We will stay here for 3 or 4 days then head for Holyrood for 2 weeks and then to St. Johne Within for the balance of the summer.

Snow!!!
Saturday, March 26, 2011
Temperatures dropped to about 40 degrees and it rained; (normal temperature for this time of year for this area is 65 degrees). We did the usual chores around the boat and headed to Williamsburg by car.
Williamsburg was originally called Middle Plantation in 1602. Quite impressive historic military town. The seeds for the American Revolution were set here by George Washington. It`s a noteworthy place because of the restoration already completed and still ongoing by the Rockefellers. This family has spent $63 million dollars in this small town. They actually bought 67 properties and restored them to the original state. John and Abby Rockefeller owned The Bassett property and Abby loved to stay there for long periods of time. John so loved this town and so appreciated Abby`s devotion to it that upon her death he established and named a museum after her.
We went to the Visitors Center in Williamsburg…..absolutely amazing; worth the trip just to go there. They have 2 theatres; one does a 45 minute film on the Rockefellers and another called The Patriot about 35 minutes long. Included in your ticket to visit the area are free shuttles . Needs about a day and a half to do!
We arrived back at Changing Lanes about 7:30 and rushed like crazy to ready the boat for departure on Monday. I also had invited Barb and Mike for Sunday supper and wanted to prepare the meal ahead because we had purchased the tickets to tour Williamsburg on Sunday. No rest for the weary!!!
One of the big chores Saturday evening was to let off all the water and refill the tanks. There was residue
from the antifreeze…took about 1.5 hours to do. Finally off to bed about midnight.

Bad

We didn’t have all the necessary work completed and delayed the trip, figuring Saturday would be good. So I helped John change the oil filter, fuel filter, and did some heavy-duty cleaning. Unfortunately the weather failed to cooperate on Saturday, temperatures dropped and on Sunday morning we woke to snow…..about an inch or so but….
So we finished the work on the boat on Friday, and as usual went for a drive. John says we’ve got Deltaville, Norfolk, Williamsburg, Urbanna, Gloucester and all of the other towns in the area and supermarkets visited. We’ve enjoyed sampling many of the local foods, e.g. crab cakes. We`ve love`d the convenience of having our car.
When we arrived at Deltaville last Saturday, we were quite pleased to see another sailboat from
Canada. ‘Nelleke’ was from Halifax and it didn’t take us long to become acquainted with Mike and Barb Turney, the owners.
We enjoyed a wonderful meal and refreshments aboard `Nelleke` on Friday. John and Mike decided to get tatoos; I`m undecided about the potency of the `refreshments`. (no, they don`t have tatoos).

Joan; poor weather wet and cold

Location: Deltaville, Virginia
We arrived in Deltaville on Saturday past, delighted to be aboard again.
We did a 3 hour maintenance course at the marina; interesting. I began to fade when they talked about bow-thrusters until I saw John’s expression of interest and groaned. He assured me later he had no interest. Yeah!
We have been hard at it, cleaning, installing and managing to leave Changing Lanes, late afternoon to do some frolicking in the region.
Our intent is to leave tomorrow around 8:00 am to arrive in Norfolk early evening.
Weather is poor. A cold front moved in overnight and lighting was powerful. This system will continue with rain today , cool temperatures but sunshine begins tomorrow morning. This is still spring here and I hear that summer is right round the corner. We have had mainly sunshine and seasonal temperatures in the 60s .
With some 70s for good will.
