2nd Day in Paradise
03 April 2015 | Warerick Wells - Exuma Land and Sea Park
Mark
Everyone slept well and longer than expected. Had breakfast while Mark downloaded weather and checked for emails. However, we did not get any emails to our sailmail address and we do not have access to the internet to get personal emails. Then we got in the dinghy and motored to the whale beach beside the Ranger Station. We followed the path - hiiked to Boo Boo Hill. It was a lengthy hike with hot sun and we walked the whole island. This has to be the highest elevation in the Bahamas. The rock faced path was full of limestone etched by water and mostly jagged. In places there were sizeable pools some wet some dry and they looked like wells. Then a new addition was a wooden bridge over a stream of water. We got to the ocean side and it was very green colored water with waves crashing against the rocky shoreline. Just beautiful! We walked further on the path to the big hill which is topped with weathered plaques with boat names. The Lady H one we left there in '95 was not to be seen and we didn't create one for Charabia. Too many hurricanes or big storms took it away. We met up with several other boaters. Also, they added a wooden bench which many took advantage of. The walk down on the opposite side was a lot easier to walk. It led us straight back to the beach and our dinghy. We came back and had lunch and a rest. Then we got in the dinghy and motored around the moored boat to mooring ball #1 to snorkel. However, the current was huge and Mark spotted a shark lurking close by, so we headed back to the dinghy. We motored in back of the islands and rocks in back of our boat. The island was visible with many kids playing on it...lots of screaming at times. Robert and I walked the tiny beach equal to our boat and then walked and swam back. We all took a shower and started working on dinner. The guys were working on boat jobs. They but some pvc pipes to be supports for our hatch windows. Robert spotted a big and small stingray. By the time I got the camera and headed out the big stingray jumped out of the water twice...what a sight. We have pizza dough rising in the run and muffins baked. SG&T time is coming up. This was the perfect day with hot sun, lovely breeze and cool waters...wow! We have thoroughly enjoyed Exuma Park.
