The On That Got Away

Up by 6:30. Listened to the weather and after breakfast repaired the 1st reef line in the main that chafed yesterday. Hauled anchor and stayed on the Banks. Reefed main sail and full jib for a lovely sail thru some of the adjoining Cays including Musha Cay which David Copperfield owns. His island includes a huge palace up on top of the hill as well as other houses close to the beach, which was full of palm trees and docks. The water was an exceptional color of clear pale blue. Both fishing rods were put into place with no bites, until Robert removed his prior to arriving at Pipe Cay. He had a bite, and it was a struggle in reeling it in. We took down the jib and the sailing speed dropped which made it easier to pull in the line, all the way until it got close to boat and then it broke off. No fish for dinner tonight. Anchored off a rocky shore with a small beach. We took the dinghy to the beach and then snorkelled off the rocky edge. Not that many fish to be seen and also more rock than coral. However, we dinghied to the next little bay which housed a couple of sailboats, and snorkelled off the shore to find a spectacular array of sea coral and colorful fish. The water is such a beautiful color. This is the first time we used two anchors, as it was very rolley when we arrived, with the current going in a different direction from the stiff breeze. We also dingied to the decca station that was abandoned years ago. It had huge pilings for a big ship to dock. Then another bay held a marina with oversize mega yachts. The waters looked too shallow for their entry but of course, they must have had a deep channel in. Thankfully, we were two bays over from them, as they launched several sea doos and we could see that from a distance, but it did not disturb me. It is movie night complete with home made popcorn. Haven't decided on the movie, but dinner is over and we are ready to watch.
