The S.S. Keewatin

Kirk
Today Emilie and I visited the S.S. Keewatin Maritime Museum. The Keewatin is a 350' steam ship that was operated by the Canadian Pacific Railroad on a run from one end of Lake Superior to the other. She began service in 1907 and was retired from service in 1965. Then in 1967, she was purchased by an individual and towed to her present resting place on the shores of Lake Kalamazoo where she has been restored and serves as a museum. The tour was guided by a very informative guide and was extremely interesting. Offering a glimpse into transportation in the not-so-distant past.

Emilie started her own blog and documents our visit to the Keewatin in much greater detail. her blog can be found at http://emi.mies.us

We spent the remainder of the day swimming and getting the boat organized for the rest of the family will be arriving this evening and we are going to need all the space we can get with 6 of us living on a 35' sailboat.
