(Editor's note: Isak has offered to help me out with the blog entries for a few days and I thought this would be a great idea as it will give me a few days off and will allow you to get a different perspective of the trip. I'll insert my comments in as editor's notes.. Enjoy!)
This morning's early check in with The "NOAA-Nothing" radio indicated that the weather might deteriorate late in the day so we got moving by 0700. After switching between the canvas and iron sails because of the inconsistent winds, we arrived at the ol' "yupper" town of Black River, MI. Coming into this river was quite challenging; going up-current in the (tannin stained) brown water while trying not to hit the breakwater or running aground. What I found interesting was the nature of the river. When we came in to the wharf, there was a fairly decent current coming out of the river, which made sense. Two seconds later when we wanted to turn the boat 180 with the bow out, the saches of Lake Superior kicked in and the current ran in the opposite direction, making it hard to pull off this maneuver.
