The traditional boats gather at Ballydehob, not far from us, every year for some music, dancing, food and fun. Jeremy Irons, the actor, has restored a castle that is on the way here and invited the fleet to stop for a drink and a tour while they waited for a favorable tide to reach the festival. The sailors sail out later with the tide while everyone else heads for the pubs where the music plays on.

This was one of the larger boats at the festival, arriving as the tide rose. Ballydehob is very shallow at low tide, which has a twelve foot rise and fall on a spring tide. The festival is scheduled during a favorable high tide, so the boats can arrive, party for a while and leave before the tide goes out. It's about a three hour window of fun.
