we had been promising Luca that he could learn to dive as soon as we heard that 10 year olds can do the PADI junior open water course at 10 years old. all we had to do was be in one place long enough that was doing the course. in reality this was a challenge to commit to. we cone across many dive operators butthe junior course is not held that often. the PADI centre here at the Octopus resort ran a 'discover scuba' course and were doing one the following day so we quickly put Luca,s name down for it. talk about excited, the following day he was up at the crack of dawn counting down the hours. Luca is writing a blog entry as part of this amazing experience in his English book and i will post this later so that he can tell you all about it (he is momentarily distracted by meeting up with old ARC friends), but we want a moment of parental pride to share. The day after he did his course in the pool we booked him into a reef dive with his lovely instructor Joanne. Charles dived with him and Isabella and i snorkelled on top to take pictures and witness this amazing event. Diving at 10 !!!!!!!! We were in our 20"s when we learnt and there he was, our little man with a tank strapped to his back that was almost as big as him. he descended down a mooring line with ease and confidence and then spent almost an hour underwater. We couldn't believe it, our boy who still cant tidy his room, was diving like a pro! well done Luca we are so happy for you and beyond proud!
