A big congratulations goes out to the Cape Hatteras crew and Nereus engineers for successfully getting Nereus back on deck in this ominous weather. With the winds blowing 20-25 knots and seas of 6 feet the Hatteras eased up beside Nereus so that the crane could be hooked to the vehicle. In the image Andy Bowen is hooking the crane line to Nereus. With many tag lines, the crane, and a tugger winch the vehicle was lifted out of the water and placed in its cradle on deck around 1020. The only injury was to a 4 by 4 used to stabilize Nereus. Let's hope this is the roughest weather Nereus ever sees on a recovery or deployment. No CTD cast will be done this afternoon due to weather. We will slowly make our way to Georgetown, Grand Cayman. We're expected to be at the dock at 0800. Current weather: overcast, 81 degrees, winds E at 26 knots, seas 8-10 feet
