Two days ago we had 2 boats of media onboard. BBC and Austria TV were
around filming and interviewing in the morning. NBC Nightly News was here
in the afternoon. They got a chance to film a CTD deployment and recovery
as well as the scientists taking water samples. They also conducted
interview of various people onboard.
NBC NIGHTLY NEWS scheduled to air MONDAY, JUNE 21st.
Yesterday we were north of the well head and were close to some fires where they were burning off the surface oil. The black clouds of smoke billowing off the fire covered the sun and draped over our heads. Smaller boats in the area, mostly trawlers, boom the oil together in preparation for burning. The CH0610 album has more pictures from the last couple days.
The image above shows a line of fires that were set yesterday.
Weather: mostly cloudy, 84 degrees, winds 6 knots, seas calm. A few rain
squalls have passed through the last couple of days.
