Easter in Trinidad

09 April 2007 | Chaguarmas, Trinidad
Julie
Well, we raced to get here before the weekend to avoid having to pay overtime fees, only to discover upon arrival that it was Good Friday. Overtime fees were about $45US, but the check-in was quick and convenient. I think we would have had paid twice that for an easy check-in in Brazil!

As it was a holiday weekend, nothing was/is open here, and what is more, they take it one further and celebrate "Easter Monday", so we were really out of luck in terms of getting work done -- our sole reason for being here.

We spent Easter on anchor in Grand Fond Bay, just around the corner from the main town of Chaguarmas, but feels worlds away. Nice calm bay, clear water and a small beach with palm trees. We had a rather atypical Easter brunch of poisson cru (raw fish Tahitian style) and sushi made from the yellowfin tunas we caught on the way in. I didn't really miss ham dinner, although could have gone for some See's chocolates!

We are now back in town and hoping to get some work done tomorrow. There are about a dozen boat yards and countless contractors who can do just about anything, so hopefully we can get our work done quickly and be moving on.
