Virgin Gorda Baths

20 May 2007 | British Virgin Islands
Chris
After leaving Bitter End Yacht Club, we sailed down to The Baths on the southwest side of Virgin Gorda. The Baths is a collection of giant boulders along the shore that form a series of grottoes both in and out of the water. It's a rather touristy destination, but worth the visit. We arrived late in the afternoon so it was too late to snorkel, so we took the dinghy ashore and tied up to a line about 50 feet offshore and swam to shore. We hiked through the rocks down towards Devil's Bay, then up to a restaurant aptly called Top of the Baths where we had a drink and watched the setting sun before swimming back to the dingy and back to Cisnecito for a dinner of grilled wahoo. We are still working on the 25 lb fish that we caught on our way in from Antigua.

In the morning, before the arrival of the masses of charter boats, we went back to shore to snorkel. We were able to swim through the boulders all the way down to the next bay. The light shining in made it seem a bit mystical. There were more fish than I would have imagined given the number of people around and we even saw a couple turtles. After we got our fill of snorkeling we headed back to the boat and set sail for Norman's Island and the home of the famous Willie T's.
