Old Friends

27 April 2007 | Antigua
Chris
About 10 years ago during a summer break, I had flown to Antigua to be part of the delivery crew for a yacht headed back to Norway for the northern summer. At the time, I wanted more offshore experience with captains and crews that really knew what they were doing. A sailing friend put me in touch with Christian (pictured above left) and his father, Od, who had been running high-end charter boats in both the Caribbean and Scandinavia for decades. They wanted to deliver their Baltic 58', Lady Jane, and their 70' custom ketch, "Swany" to Norway from Antigua. I spoke to Christian on the phone once, and he told me I had a spot and to get to Antigua on a specific date. I flew to Antigua on a one-way ticket not knowing what to expect.

It turned out to be one of my fondest and most memorable experiences. We had so much fun crossing the Atlantic and North Sea and I learned so many invaluable lessons from Christian and his father. I had fallen out of contact with Christian for the last 5 years so you can imagine how surprised I was to see him and Lady Jane anchored next to us in Falmouth. It was good to see Christian and really fun to have him see my boat which he noted that it was a very good choice.
