Let's Sail Around the World

01 February 2004 | Manhattan, NY
Julie
I had a work conference down in Orlando, so Chris came along to enjoy some R&R by the pool with the other 'wives.' I'm not sure what it was about that weekend, but on the flight back to cold and dreary Newark, we both were feeling a bit disillusioned. We had often talked about sailing around the world, of course as more of a dream than anything, but that day we really considered it as a possibility. We agreed that we would go away and think about it for two weeks and determine if we could do it - not only financially, but were we ready to leave Manhattan in the middle of our careers? What about our friends and family?

After some very hard thinking, we decided yes. It was the perfect time to go - no kids, no mortgage. Jobs, family and friends will all still be there when we get back. The hardest part was actually telling someone, which would make it a reality. We decided to meet our good friends Keri and Dawn at the Soho Grand for a drink and spilled the news. What a feeling.
