Isla Grande

We left San Blas and after a long day of mostly motoring, arrived at the picturesque island, Isla Grande. In the small village ashorew were a few colorful buildings and there were water taxis and jet skis tearing through the anchorage - quite a difference from the kunas who you hardly noticed as they peacefully and slowly paddled their canoes.
We got the anchor set and went ashore in search of a rasta bar that we had heard about. We landed our dinghy at a restaurant that we thought might be it. It was not, but we were sort of trapped at that point, so decided to stay.
It turned out there was a "conga" dance presentation that night with about thirty of the local children and a few adults. We had some very cold Panama beers and a great seafood meal and enjoyed the dancing and people-watching. There were a few foreigners in the group who you could pick out in an instant, just by the way they danced.
In the morning we hiked through the town around the other side of the island where there is a popular surf spot. There are a few cool looking hotels and we kept asking ourselves why more Americans don't vacation here. Anyway, we climbed up to the lighthouse and then recovered with cool drinks and breakfast at one of the little local cafes.
