Weekend Getaway

26 August 2007 | Isla Taboga, Panama
Julie
We had an exhausting week in Panama City trying to source parts and get other things done in probably what will be the last time we're in a big city for a long time. Friday morning we came back over to Isla Taboga to relax for the weekend, although all of Friday was spent installing the new watermaker membrane. The good thing is that it's working perfectly and the water quality is better than it's ever been. Friday night we tried to find some fun ashore but it was a little quiet in town. We had a beer in a nice little restaurant up the hill and then Andrew and Chris went to work in the kitchen making massive amounts of spaghetti with bacon. We had an exciting night watching a show called Ocean Oasis.

Saturday it rained most of the morning and we basically did nothing. Finally as it looked like the rain was clearing, Chris and I went ashore to go on a hike up to the highest point on the island. Unfortunately about half way up, the rain came like I've never seen. Just when we thought it couldn't possibly rain harder, it would. We ran back down the hill and all the way through town back to the boat. There was a bit of wind, but not so much as to make the anchor drag, so we were ok. Andrew was sitting at the helm with engine on just in case.

After the storm cleared we motored to the other side of the little island here to get some protection from the southerly swell. Had fajitas for dinner and watched most of Goodfellas. Somehow when we got it, we only got three of four parts which was disappointing.

It's clear this morning. Well, at least it's not raining right now and we're trying to dry out all of our soggy clothes from yesterday. There is a nice beach in the bay here and hopefully it'll stay nice long enough to go for a swim before we have to head back to the City
