Canopy Tour

12 October 2007 | Playa Machaca, Costa Rica
Julie
We went canopying today which was awesome. We are anchored in front of the Four Seasons, so we went up there to find a taxi to the place where we had originally made reservations. After waiting about an hour, no taxi, so I asked them if there might be any other options. They could not have been more helpful - they called the nearby Witches Rock Canopy Tour and they came to pick us up in about five minutes.

We arrived and got all geared up - harness, helmet, gloves, etc. and had a two-minute demonstration before they sent us on our way. We climbed up a platform and were clipped onto the cable - they then push you off and you slide across the cable to a platform on the other end. The first one was intimidating but it was not scary at all - very fun and easy. Some of the cables were at a steeper angle so we had to use our gloves to slow us down at the end, else we would crash in to the tree. We canopied above beautiful rain forest and waterfalls, but unfortunately didn't see as much wildlife as we hoped - only one howler monkey.

The whole thing lasted about two hours which was just about perfect. We were then shuttled back to the Four Seasons where we treated ourselves to a fantastic lunch at the golf clubhouse with a view of the bay where we are anchored. I have to say that the service at the hotel is amazing - even as non-guests (and dirty ones at that), they treated us like royalty.
