Who Is The Navigator On This Barge?
13 November 2007 | Puerto Angel, Mexico
Chris
I admit it, I botched our plan today. I had told Julie and Andrew that Puerto Angel was 10 miles from Chahue Bay so we had plenty of time to go out for a good Mexican lunch of tortas, enchiladas, and mole, after internet and shopping in Crucecita. Well it more like 20 plus miles. So leaving at 2:00 PM had us hustling to make it there before dark. Also both C-Map and Nobeltec are totally useless here. Both their datums are off and there is no detail on my versions of each. Also Charlie's Charts is pretty useless too, their waypoint for Puerto Angel is over a mile off (but Pinniped's in the appendix is spot on). This is typical of Charlie's Charts in my experience. Our friend on Irish Eyes almost ran aground in the South Pacific when they trusted one of the waypoints in Charlie's Charts. Of course the disclaimer says "not for navigation" and it is a great guide for everything other than waypoints. The only navigational aid we have right now is a hand drawn chart of Puerto Angel from Charlie's Charts which turned out to be okay. Fortunately it is an easy anchorage and we still had some of the last bits of light in the day. We will check in with the Port Captain here this morning and do some exploring.
