We have been on a bit of a movie watching binge. We watched TRUE GRIT and THE KING'S SPEECH with P&P. The King's Speech was very good and I enjoyed getting a history lesson. We have seen TheSocial Network and it was a very good watch. My favourite by far was a recommendation from my daughter that Al felt sceptical about but I think he'd agree that it WAS THE BEST MOVIE we have seen in a very long time. Its called TEMPLE GRANDIN and we both HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend it.

Electrical Upgrades

Electrical Update.

The battery box has now been built & fiber glassed & epoxied. I am using 6 6v Eveready Golf Cart batteries, for a total of 660 amps after receiving some very good reports about them, also they were only $70+ from Sam's Club, compared to the $160+ for Trojans. I found a great web site that discussed the various ways of wiring 6v batteries Click on this link I went with method 3 which should give a balanced input/output. We measured all the new battery cables we needed, including the wiring for the alternator & the run to the new 12v panel & had them all made up for us by ' Genuinedealz' an Ebay seller. The cables are made up with the right color, end connectors & all connectors are heat shrinked, they did a really good job, & very reasonably priced, I will definitely use them again if I need large gauge wire. We also purchased a 200amp marine alternator off Ebay for $150 from 'Powermax-alternator' the pulley that came with it was a little too narrow but after calling Robert he is sending me another pulley. The alternator will put out 115amps at 1200rpm & full amps at 18-1900rpm our cruising speed. To install the alternator we are leaving the original smaller one in place, & purchased a new engine mounting bracket from American Diesel that has the platform on top to mount a second generator on the opposite side, also the fan belt will only be connected to the main pulley & the alternator & not going through the water pump. Instead of running the main engine while at anchor or on a mooring ball, we will be using our Honda 2000 generator to feed the 2 battery chargers one is rated at 30amps. While under way we will be running a 3000w inverter with remote to keep the freezer & fridge purring. Oh yes we have an ice maker that we can run while the generator is on to keep our large ice box cold; we use it to store fresh veggies, beer etc!!! as the fridge is small. If anyone needs any photos of the alternator install etc, email us & we will send them to you.

Looks good. I'm guessing you will have two batteries series together first and then do method three to parallel the three banks into on large bank for a total of 660 amps?

You are correct.

That should work well. How confident are you about the batteries lasting? They are a good price, but I've heard both good and bad, so not sure. What have you heard?

Yes I heard a few people say they do not last, but it seems the majority say they are great, you just have to be careful with your charging routine

A"Wristed" Development

As well as my knitting passion I've acquired a new habit (hobby). On a visit home last fall my neighbor was sporting the coolest button bracelet. I tried to purchase myself one, but there were none left in the colour I desired. My daughter had inherited a gallon jar of buttons from my mother several years ago. On inspection I was confident I could recreate a bracelet of my own design. After I exhausted the stash I begged from Kiley I turned to Ebay where an unbelievable, and endless stash of new, used and vintage buttons can be scored. A steady stream of boxes has been arriving with buttons of various sizes and colours.

I alternate my days between knitting and creating wrist art. The bracelets are very fun and entertaining to me as I imagine the life of the interesting buttons, who might have worn them and to what event.
