Another job off the list. We have wanted to nest Tink in between the dinghy and transom since the new Weaver davits were installed. I think TINK looks rather comfortable in her new storage spot. This will make it easier for me to deploy her when I want to go for a ride. I am anticipating some nice anchorages as we cruise around in Fort Meyers beaches, Sanibel and Captiva islands as we make our way to Charlotte Harbour for the haul out.

Up & Upgrade

As luck would have it Enterprise gave us a free upgrade to this swanky puppy. We cruised about Ft. Meyers and Sanibel Island doing errands and playing tourist in the convertible black Mustang. It was a lovely day ending with a great dinner out at an upscale restaurant.

Today Al is finishing the plumbing job so that we can draw our fresh water from both tanks. This means we will have 150 gallons of fresh water at our disposal. Bob and Jane will join up with us tonight and tomorrow we will continue cruising this area for a couple of weeks. We have identified a suitable haul out and DIY yard at Port Charlotte so we are thinking we will try to haul out about Feb, 17th, have several days to pack up and do some immediate boat jobs. Then we will get a one way rental car to Syracuse where we hope family will pick us up to bring us back to Kingston. The weather has been so glorious and much warmer than last year, it will be hard to leave.

Not Quite Identical

I finished this pair of socks on our lake crossing. We had perfect weather for the crossing. At times no land was in sight, it reminded me of our crossing in Lake Ontario from Main Duck Island to Oswego, NY in '09. The canal part of the trip ranged from very pretty to down right boring.

My socks are fraternal, I love using the self patterning yarns. Its fun to see what colour comes up next and what design results. I have a second pair on the go in just a brown colour (moccasin). I also am almost finished a pair of Turkish bed socks, in another great yarn from Yarn Paradise. That yarn had a few false starts. I hadn't realized it when I bought it that it was 6 ply which is not my preferred weight for socks. I finally let the yarn win out when it revealed a more sipper-style sock was what it wanted to be.

We are in Fort Meyers as of yesterday afternoon. Last Dance broke off as they are staying with friends at their condo slip. Al and I did a cursory walk about town yesterday afternoon, getting the lay of the land. Today I hope to convince Al to walk to a flea market for browsing and maybe to get some fresh local citrus. Tomorrow we are getting a rental car for 2 days. There are a couple of haul out boat yards we want to check out. We will also check out some local beaches, and do some tourist type things. There is the Thomas Edison museum which has been highly recommended.

BEAUTIFUL SOCKS!!

Fort Meyers is an interesting place. If you are at the downtown marina look out into the waterway at the spoil island that you see there that seems to have docks on it. Apparently 30 years ago the guy that was doing the dredging build up the island with teh spoil and then claimed it as his own. When we were there three years ago we were told that there was some sort of bureaucratic tangle and fighting going on about true ownership and if he had the right to claim it. Hence the development has stopped.
Ain't life grand?

LOVE the socks (especially the colour) ... something I have never attempted my hand at... hmm, needs to place that on my bucket list, although I hope to, at some point in time, never have to think about socks again ! LOL. Alex.

Dispite what SPOT may show, we are currently (as of 2pm) nestled into a slip at the Fort Myers Municiple Marina, after a nice 5 hour trip from Riverside Marina in La Belle. Tomorrow we will do a walk about of the town & on Monday rent a car for a couple of days to go visit storage marinas, & go sight seeing, to plan where to next take CK. Hopefully somewhere on the Gulf coast to hang on a ball or anchor & maybe do some fishing. Bob & Jane left us for a few days to tie up to their friends condo slip the other side of the river from us. Will hook up again sometime next week. Jennifer will post a more interesting blog tonight or tomorrow!!!!

Across the river in Cape Coral we stayed in the hook for free, you can dingy to shore. Sandy bottom, we put out two anchors. It's a place behind all those houses. Ask the locals they will tell you how to get there, but I guess GPS will show you easily. It's a long way in off the waterway, but you are in a power boat so it will be fast. Once you get to the houses, it's like traveling down streets with no names. I can't remember for sure but I think we turned right on the second canal. Most people kept their boats at the Glades for the summer because it's inland safer away from the coast during hurricane season.

We have not had reliable WiFi so here finally is a post from Stuart, Fl. We are leaving here this morning after a 2 night stay. Yesterday Al swapped out our water pump for a new one and ran 25 feet of new hose from our port side water tank. This has eliminated the slow leak we had. Now our water pressure is so strong it almost blows the dishes out of the sink. We spent one night at Vero Beach where we had to raft with Last Dance because there were no available slips. Jane and I enjoyed being close to share our knitting and dinner. Bridget felt quite at home as she jumped from boat and back freely. Tonight we are booked into Indiantown. It will be a short day of only about 20 miles but this is allowing us the opportunity to check it out as a place to put up Close Knit when we come back to Canada early March. I might add we have been enjoying fabulous temperatures of high 70's and sunshine. This is going to be hard to leave.
Update! This is being sent from Indian Town just east of Lake Okeechobee.

I hope you get to smell the orange blossoms, I will never forget that. Enjoy your trip!

I enjoyed my week long stay at Indiantown and you'll find that there are a lot of Canadians and Canadian boats there as the place is far enough inland to make the insurance companies happy. If you decide to leave your boat there a word to the wise: make sure that youu cover it completely. The Sugar Barons will burn off their fields in the summer time and the soot from burning cane rains down from the heavans like black fluffy rain and if you aren't there to wash it off...well if you look around the yard in the marina you will probably see the result on some folks boats that didn't put a tarp over their baby.

I remember them burning the sugar cane, and we even got some on the boat cruising down the river. Its a bit scary to see all that smoke the first time, especially when you don't know what it is.

We wondered what those little black things were thatwe saw floating down from the sky as we crossed Lake Okeechobee.

Jane and I got to the yarn store shortly after it opened at 1 p.m. It was more crowded than the Walmart on Black Friday. As you can see from the photo the chairs had been removed from inside and the patient partners were enjoying the goodies and libations outside. It was so hot and crowded inside Jane and I did not stay. We were so happy we had made our purchases yesterday. We did a wee power walk and I returned to CK to make my stew and prepare some deviled eggs for our mini happy hour on Last Dance. At 3:30 I sprinted back up to the sale just before its 4 p.m. close. I popped for some cool notions to have ahead for gift giving to my knitting family and close friends. I also added 3 skeins of soft smooshy yarn to my ever growing stash. As the Yarnharlot would say I'm bordering on WHACO (wool housing and containment overload). Alistair thinks I've gone beyond WHACO.
