Chosen Fabrics

The photo doesn't do justice to the fabrics we chose for the chairs to re-purpose. The textures are quite lovely, in our opinions.

To Blog or not to Blog on Sailblog?

I struggle with the notion of whether I/we should suspend our boat blogging and I should reve up my knitting blog exclusively. I guess either way the content would still not be exclusive to the topic. We have acquired some interesting pieces to repurpose. One chair in particular I find rather homely(green one) but for what ever reason it tugs at my heart strings. I bought them for their usefulness and perhaps quirkiness. The two chair shown have scant arm rests lending to ease of knitting. The flowery one in particular has been christened the "knitting chair". The stool lends a nice dimension to the comfort and relaxation to the art of knitting. The green one, although comfortable; esthetically it is just plain "homely". My dear friend Donna acquired these for me and then (Happy Birthday friend) steered me to an Ad on Kijiji for an upholsterer. I made contact and was pleasantly surprised a woman was the responder. She has 15 years experience and she is coming here at 1:30 today with references and an album of her work. I'm having a good feeling about breathing new life into these chairs and that we enjoy a good future with them.

We are settling into land life rather nicely. Alistair will head off on his bus pass today to do errands alone while I consult with the upholsterer. We are ticking wee things on our list.

Words to Live By

We are finding bare spots for hanging some art work. This plaque was a gift from my dog loving neighbor several years ago. But they are words to live by.

We got a land line and high speed, faster than a speeding bullet internet connection yesterday. The land line was needed to let guests in our security building. It will be hard now to keep the riff raff out now.

Anyone who received an email from us with our contact info, please note the area code should read 613 NOT 612

Navigating
Jennifer-Grey Windy and very cool

It's a bit different navigating public transit than charts on water. We discovered yesterday if we take bus #71 just outside our building that arrives about 18 minutes after the hour we can get to the RioCan and Cataraqui Centers. The rest of our needs can easily be met on foot. Cabs are not expensive here either so for a fancy evening out that would be an option.

The apartment is coming together and we have gotten some nice things from Kijiji, Craig's List and You Bid Local.com. We are awaiting Cogeco today so we can be connected to the outside world via land phone, High speed internet and cable TV. The land phone is required for allowing guests into our security building. The last things we are in need of is a double bed for the guest bedroom, a knife block and a rolling pin. I made quiche last night and rolled the crust with a beer bottle.

The guest room is also my knitting supply room. As I unpack my stash its hard to believe I had all that on Close Knit.

We had a similar experience when all of my knitting and craft gear and Mike's painting supplies and some of the duplicate tools made their way off Nelleke. It is amazing what you can stow away but I admit I am much happier with my goodies arranged in my work room where I can actually see what I have and select the next project. When we travel again it will be with only enough projects for the time we intend to be away.

Transitioning
Jennifer - cold
03/06/2012, Kingston, Ontario

We are transitioning into land life. The biggest challeneg will be trying to live without a car. Yesterday when Al was installing blinds he needed a masonary drill bit. I walked up to Canadian Tire (Ace Hardware-ish like) then to the LCBO (Liquor Control Board Ontario) and to Loblaws (Publix). The round trip took me 70 minutes and although it was cold, in the sun it was pleasant. Last night was my first really good sleep in our new abode. I rose early though and caught the sun rising over the city.

I Hope you have room for your knitting supplies. It looks like a really nice apt. Hopefully, they have bus service there, it's not so bad without a car, it just takes longer to do everything, and I admit the cold really sucks!

Getting Settled

The last 6 days have been a whirlwind of finding suitable furniture and getting organized. Last night we enjoyed our first Sunday supper and it was the first meal I'd made in the apartment. All the kitchen is not unpacked yet. But enough was found to put a nice pork tender loin supper together. Bridget is adjusting pretty well to apartment living. As you can see it has been an exhausting time for Alistair and Miss B.

On another note, its soooo cold here this morning (-15C) we saw two Blue Jays towing a squirrel just to get him going.
