I am spending the day in Orlando Florida at my annual International Reading Association Conference. I did not spend it, as the title suggest, at Disney World. Instead, I spent it in my room reading a wonderful draft of a dissertation by one of my student colleagues, Ian O'Byrne. It is always a pleasure to see students who have worked with you get to this point and begin to fly on their own. It is also a bit sad to know they will be leaving.

Today is also Mother's Day. I did good this year by making a contribution to NPR, a contribution that also delivered roses and chocolates to Debbie before I left. I called and we talked early this morning, trying to make up, a bit, for not being home on this special day. Debbie will be driving her dad, Dad, to Michigan to celebrate a high school reunion of one of his classes, from when he taught English. Debbie will not be joining me on this trip to the boat.

Katie and I plan to meet in Seattle on Tuesday. I can hardly wait!!!!!!
