HOUSE SOLD
18 April 2013
We're on our way, suddenly everything changes. We've had an offer on our house which we have accepted and the SOLD sign has been pinned to the agents board on our house. It's been almost a year since we put it on the market, and in that time we have tided and cleaned more times than I care to remember. Each time we thought maybe this time only to be disappointed, but last Friday we had a yes, and at just four thousand under our asking price.
We've already started to empty draws, and take stuff to the local boot sale, not that we're going to get much cash for this detritus of our lives at number 45, but its better that it goes to a good home than the tip.
The other house that we have had for sale was one that belonged to myself and my brother that we had inherited. This has been on the market for almost three years and would be the money we needed to buy our boat. For whatever reason this has been the hardest to sell even though it's in a good area.
The ridiculous thing about this house is that it would have made common sense if my brother had bought my half and let it out. He's still working and doesn't have a mortgage on his own house. But he has been reluctant to go down this road, until this week. We had dropped the price by £20,000, due to the state of the market and last week we had a firm offer on this property. We were ready to accept this offer, when at the last minute my brother decided that he would buy it instead, at the same price.
So within the space of one week everything has changed. We have given notice at work, and in twelve weeks we shall be finally be free and ready to start this adventure. By then all the sales will have gone through and we'll be homeless, well except for our apartment in the Dominican republic.
So that's it we're almost on our way, we've started to look at boats again. We'll spend a few months chilling in the Caribbean come July and then start looking seriously for our boat.
What a difference a week can make. We're finally on our way, just the business of shedding our former lives, to begin the big adventure.
