Exploring the Space Coast

Yesterday, our second day back after family visits to Houston and California, Joanne and I are back at the helm headed to Titusville Florida for our first stop as we continue north. A personal goal of mine has been to visit the Kennedy Space Center which has been such a large part of our growing up in the sixties life. I will always remember the famous quote,"If you remember the Sixties, you weren't in the sixties". While I did not participate in the drugs of the sixties, I feel, after this past days events, like I missed the sixties. I learned so much about what I had not paid enough attention to.
First, however, about the Titusville Municipal Marina. GREAT SPOT. Clean, great people and a shuttle bus. Second, about heir restaurants. We asked about all of them and tried two. Let's just say that the locals don't compliment any ofc them and they are correct. We asked about Pauls Smokehouse. We heard, "My best friend owns it and I have only been their twice in the last ten years". Best location in town, worst food and service from another couple. This is looking grim. About the most famous restaurant, Dixies. Famous but nobody recommends going there. Etc.
We the first morning, however charged upa and ready to go. The Marina Van took us into the Kennedy Space Center gates. My first thoughts were, "Wally World". Huge parking lot, Large Missiles (pictured), Big Buildings. Long ticket line. Once through the gate, we were advised by a very nice gate person to do the simulator, see the 10:30 movie, attend our luncheon with the astronaut, and do the afternoon bus tour. HOMERUN!!!
The full experience makes you feel like an Astronaut. They talk about the history, the historic flights, the lost missions and lives and about the Apollo and Shuttle programs with enthusiasm. We had accepted Kennedy's Challenge to put men on the moon. Our Astronaut, Wendy Lawerence, had made four shuttle missions and you could feel her pride. Our lunch table had two russians, a couple from Holland and a couple with kids from Minnesota. Everyone in the Space Center was proud of their heritage. I left proud of America
Joanne and I both recommend this experience.
