Greensport...what a surprise
30 September 2013 | Greensport, North Fork, Long Island

The trip from Block Island turned out to be a pleasant surprise. We were headed for Orient Point. Lee Weill had just come in on the ferry a month earlier and was full of info about this part of Long Island. The two Long Island natives knew nothing. The potato fields had long ago been plowed over and wineries had sprouted everywhere. As we entered the North Fork, we passed Plum Island (you don't want to know what happens there!), Shelter Island and pass the light house for the Shelter Island entry (pix). Our weather was turning warmer. Trees were just turning and our exploration of Greensport during the afternoon left us very impressed and for me a desire to sail here in the future. We were the only boat in a 300 slip municipal marina. Later that evening, we were finally joined by one other boat. A 100 foot cruiser.
