Off to Treasure Cay

16 January 2014 | Treasure Cay, Abacos, Bahamas
Toby Hynes
Today we set sail for Treasure Cay early in the morning. The winds were coming out of the East so it was a very good sail. As we neared the entry to Treasure Cay we decided to try to realign our wind instruments. This found us going into 360° circles. As the wind instrument failed to really keep up with her 360° circles, we realized that we were probably not approaching it correctly. I must admit, that we tried numerous times to do this 360. I can't imagine what people thought from the shore.

As we entered Treasure Cay, it was, of course, low tide...but, rising. Although the markings in the guide books said that we would make it with no issues, we proceeded very, very slowly. Joanne as always, was at the helm. She did a great job, with probably more than enough assistance from her happy hubby, It was probably fairly harrowing for her. We entered the Anchorage and having called treasure Cay Marina decided that we would stay once again on the dock.

The dock manager described the Anchorage is having three mooring balls. These mooring balls, however, had not been dived on in the last three years. There were numerous boats in the Anchorage. We later learned that they felt the holding was acceptable. Our guidebook indicated that it would be questionable.

Once on shore we checked out the shops…not many. There were, however, a grocery store, pharmacy, and bakery. After going back to the boat, we decided on walking Coco Beach. This turns out to be one of the highest 10 rated beaches in the world. The sand is is fine as any I have ever seen. We decided on dinner on the boat after a few drinks at the Treasure Cay Marina bar.
