Back in the water and the weather has turned beautiful. Water thanks are full, projects are far enough along so it is time to sail. Almost weighed anchor this afternoon but hit a small snag so it off tomorrrow for a few days to Isla Espiruto Santo. Think desert island with post card bays.

La Paz

Back in La Paz after 2 months in Seattle. Cold and rainy to hot. I will be doing hard labor in the yard for the next few days then CR will do the splash. Just read the blog from Discovery and they have had some serious boat issues. Hope that is the end of that. I have a dirty boat, some bottom painting [...]

Larry loaned me his 2003 Ford Focus and I made the 5 hr drive in comfort. Arrived relaxed and ready to eat and visit with Mom, Vanessa, Kevin and watch Rubin play video games. Mon was in good health and spirits. Kevin has a really nice Fender acoustic that he let me play. It was great to hang and get to know Vanessa and Kevin better.

Hot and Humid
Sharks, Sudden Storms and lots of Heat.

After cruising up the East coast of the Baja it is now time to cross the Sea to San Carlos.

There has been a lot of nice sailing and nights spent in beautiful anchorages but this trip has been a bit on the hot and muggy side.

The "Chabasco's" which are thunder storms that generate in Sonora and come across the Sea keep us on our toes. There are also Thunder storms that come from the south and north of Baja and they move quick.

We where caught by one off Punta Chavito about 30 mi South of here. We just missed getting caught on a lee shore in 35kt winds and 6 foot steep seas. Since we were 1 mile out when it hit and and had sea room I hoove to until the main part of the system passed then continued on. Another on got us later from the opposite direction so it turned out to be a long day.

A few days ago off the coast of Bahia Concepcion we where sailing very slow and a pack of sharks appeared. They stalked us for about an hr. I dumped our bio garbage after they disappeared and they came right back. One checked it out but didn't like orange peal and coffee grounds.

An update for the long forgotten blog.

Sailed out to Cleta Lobos to get away from town and do needed maintenance. Clean the bottom and polish the top sides. That is the side of the boat above the water for any non sailors that might stumble on to this blog. The anchorage in La Paz gets old after a while due to the current that runs here.

Finished installing the back and for stays yesterday. that was a long process because I had to replace most of the hardware that attaches to the wires. When I get around to the lower shrouds I hopefuly won't make the same mistakes.

Another outing is in the works. That would be sailing with three other boats to the north for a weeek or more.

Photo is me using the mast climber. It is work getting to the top but I can do it my self and don't have to worry about being dropped.

Another success story, other than Seattle winning the SB. Betty on Discovery taught me how to make sourdough bread and I baked my first loaf and finished the stays on the same day. Time for a Marg.

I have a dirty boat, some bottom painting and polishing the top sides ahead of me but nothing compared to having the shaft pulled and fuel tanks repaired. But that's manana! Today I am at Rancho Viejo sipping a cold one.
