Hi there and welcome to Hawks Catch, home of Corsair Charters and Schooner Corsair. This blog is a new venture for us, and through it we hope to share with you some of the day to day adventures and pleasures of living life on the water in this beautiful place.
It's a new season at Corsair Charters, and with that comes a whole new crew.....except for Capt. Mike, of course. As always, over the years, he remains steady at the helm of the beautiful Schooner Corsair.
Crew members on board this year include Leroy McMillan, a local resident and sailmaker/rigger by trade. Leroy helped out last year and so is not entirely new. He's got the routine down pat, I understand, and our guests seem to like him a lot, so we convinced him to stick around!
We are also happy to welcome Chesly Larkin, a local college student attending culinary school. She's pursuing a degree as a pastry chef and hopes to one day open a bakery of her own. Maybe we can talk her into doing some really great desserts.....hmmmmm......(got to put that on my To Do list).
Chesly & Leroy
Lauren Evans, who will soon be relocating to Orange Beach from Birmingham just in time for our busy season, will be helping out also. She has been attending culinary school in Birmingham, and has worked with Chef Frank Stitt at both Highlands and Bottega Restaurants for the past year.

As you can see, we are very strong in the culinary department now, and with Capt. Mike coming from a long line of great cooks and being pretty handy in the galley himself, the fresh seafood feast we offer our guests is sure to please.
And then there's me, Gwen Carswell. I'll be the voice on the phone, booking reservations in absentia. While everyone else is living and loving life on the water, I'll be slaving away at my computer way up North in Wetumpka, Alabama. That's pronounced "Wee-tump-kuh" for those of you who were wondering. The Indian translation is "Rumbling Waters," because it sits right on the banks of the Coosa River. Here's a useless fact: Did you know that Wetumpka once held the great distinction of being one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, along with Chicago. No kidding!
And so, with the introductions done, it's time to shove off for today. We hope that you will continue to check back with us and keep up to date on the happenings at Hawks Catch and Corsair Charters. By the way, we've got something really fun going on here this weekend, but more about that later. Yeah, we know......the suspense is gonna kill you!
