Boat shopping in Maine on a crystal clear September day......a dirty job but someone has to do it!

01/12/1999, Iles des Saintes, French West Indies

In January of 1999 we spent a week aboard a chartered Catamaran in the French West Indies with a side trip to Dominica. The weather was wonderful, the islands beautiful and the sailing spectacular.

Les Saintes, perhaps our favorite stop, is an Archipelago of three islands just south of Guadeloupe. Terre de Haut is the most populated island and feels a bit like the French coast. The market in Bourg is well worth a visit. We spent two days wandering the narrow streets, dining in a small cafe down an alley, and listening at an open window as the local school children recitied their lessons. Sunday morning a bakery sent its boat out to the anchorage with a friendly "bonjour" and warm french pastries! Oh yes, we'll be back!
