New York
Mostly hot and humid
07/31/2010, NY

We arrived in New York last Saturday. Well actually, we stayed at the Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City, NJ which is just across the Hudson River. Just really got settled in on Saturday but got up on Sunday and took the ferry across to NY. The ferry was right by the World Financial Center which is just next to the WTC site. You can see absolutely nothing of the former WTC because of new constuction the whole place is fenced in and wrapped with orange to prevent looking. Monday we decided to risk it and took off on the Path from Jersey City to the subway in NY and went to Times Square. We actually made it there! It was neat and really busy with almost a circus like atmosphere. We stayed a few hours and walked around. Went down to Macy's and rode the old wooden escalater to the basement. It was cool! We bought tour tickets and on Tuesday we went back to Times Square to catch a tour. It went all over downtown(China Town, Little Italy, Soho, etc.) And also to the Empire State building. We went to the 83rd floor and looked out over the city.(a little nerve wracking for me!)Took the night tour that night which was really nice with all the lights! Wednesday we rented a car to grocery shop and drive to Brooklyn to see my cousin Jimmy and his wife Shannon and their brand new and so beautiful baby Elizabeth! Lots of fun and great to see all of them. Thursday we took the car back and caught the train and subway back to Times square for another tour. This time we went uptown.(Harlem, 5th Ave. museums and central park). Nice. Worn out! Friday my neice Monica and her two precious girls came over from Philly and we all went to Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. Really cool to see up close. We had a great time and they stayed the night with us on the boat. So great to spend time with them! They left this morning early and so are we. Heading to Connecticut, still hunting some cooler weather!

NJ Coast
still hot

The last few days have been quite an adventure. We left Havre de Grace Monday morning and headed to Chesapeake City to get ready to make the run through the C&D canal and down the Delaware River. Making this work is very specific as you need to leave Chesapeake City an hour before high tide at Reedy Island, De. We got everything right! The only problem was the squall that came up just before we reached Cape May. It was very sudden and very scarey! I was in tears for the first time on the trip. But we made it through thanks to Craig's knowledge and skills! We anchored in a little lake just north of Cape May. We left early and made it to Ocean City where we stayed at a marina as we needed to wash clothes, etc. We had a pizza delivered. Delicious! Left early Thursday morning and made it to "the glimmer glass" in Manasquan, NJ. Nice anchorage but that little bridge was really tricky! It is 1 of 2 in the world. The other one is in France. Looked like rats were turning the motor! Left there as soon as the bridge opened again this morning at 7:30. Nice ride on up here and got in about 3:30. Tons of boats out here! Moving on in to Liberty State park marina tomorrow. Right in front of the statue of Liberty. Should be cool!

Gosh, Patti, I almost cried myself reading about your run-in with the squall!! I hope you keep your life jackets on in situations like that!
You are having too much fun to have a catastrophe!

are you planning on going to see Jim and Shannon and Elizabeth ?
Havre de Grace
Humid, not too bad
07/18/2010, havre de Grace, MD

We arrived in Havre de Grace last Thursday. If you ever want to visit a beautiful little picturesque town with quaint shops and fabulous restaurants, this is it! My sister Bo and brother in law Mike drove over from PA Friday morning. We went to lunch at a great restaurant downtown and then we held a gun on the guys to take us thrift shopping!! LOL!! We had a great time riding around and visiting. That evening they had a jazz band in the park overlooking the marina. We walked up with our lounge chairs and cooler and listened. It was a super night. A nice breeze with the Chesapeake in the background. Afterwards we went out to another fabulous dinner downtown. Saturday morning Bo and I left the guys and took off for the yardsales! Not too much luck but the fun is in the chase! Met the guys for lunch and back to the boat to relax a while. Later went shopping to restock the boat. Dinner at another fabulous restaurant Saturday night. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and they left at lunch time today to drive back to Belle Vernon. BOO HOO! In the morning we head to Chesapeake City to get ready for the C&D canal crossing and down to Cape May, NJ. We've heard it can be an interesting trip. I guess we"ll see!

Kent Island,MD
overcast but warm
07/12/2010, KentMorr Marina

We left DC last Thursday am and made it halfway down the Potomac to Aqualand at the 301 bridge. Left there the next morning and made it to Solomons, MD Friday afternoon. We stayed at Calverts Marina for a couple of nights as it rained all day Saturday. They let us use the rental car to do a little grocery shopping and we also got caught up n laundry. Cool little town with nothing but sailboats! We had a delicious seafood chowder at the little marina cafe. Left there early Sunday and made it to Tilghman Island. The wind was in our face all day so we made very little headway. We decided to anchor out in a little bay as the weather was fairly cool. We left there this morning and made it to Kent Island and a very nice and reasonable marina with a really nice restaurant. We will probably stay here a couple of days and then head on up the chesapeake. We are meeting Bo and Mike (my sister and brother-in-law) in Havre de Grace Friday for a long weekend. We have passed and taken pictures of 6 lighthouses since last Friday. So much fun to see!

Washington
MORE THAN HOT!!!!
07/07/2010, Washington, DC

Well, I say to Craig every day "we picked the hottest summer in the history of the world to make this trip". It's 103 at this very moment! But we have had some nice days. We got here late last Tuesday the 29th. The next day we found out where the closest metro station was and walked up there. Got help there figuring out how to get on and off and figuring out how much our tickets would be. So we hopped on and went to Alexandria. They have a beautiful historic district and we spent all day there. Had lunch and went to the old torpedo factory on the riverfront. We were worn out when we got back but it was fun. Friday we bought tickets for the "tourmobile". We bought a 2 day pass. It's a tour bus that goes all over DC and Arlington. It makes stops at all the monuments and special buildings and you can get off and stay as long as you like and then catch another one to the next stop you want to make. We went straight to Arlington and spent the whole day there. Saturday we went to The Museum of Natural History, The red castle, the Lincoln and Vietnam memorials. And of course on Sunday we watched the fireworks from the back of the boat along with a million other people. It was awesome to say the least! We met a nice couple living on their monohull at the end of our dock and they offered to take us to west marine Monday. Well, they also ended up taking us to the Marine memorial and the Marine Corps Museum at Quantico. Out to lunch at a Vietnamse restaurant in Arlington and supper at a Greek restaurant. It was a lovely day and they are just the nicest couple! Bud and Sandy. Tonight we are going out with them to eat steamed shrimp and crabs. We are going to head out in the morning. The weather is supposed to be in the mid 90s so that's cooler than it's been lately. We want to try to get north ASAP! But we have had a wonderful time here!!
