Still in Georgetown

Today is our last day in town to get groceries, water and a few other things before we leave Georgetown tomorrow. The weather looks good for us to start north up the Exumas, then over to Eleuthera by mid week. We just learned the other day that Lorbas and Waterlot (a trawler) will be going with us. We met Waterlot, Margaret and Harvey about 10 days ago. They are long time friends of Rick and Donna from Lorbas. They have had their boats in the same marina in Canada for many years. (Continued...)

We have been in Georgetown a little over a week now and are having a great time. We try to get into town for wifi especially, but have done some shopping and eating lunch with friends. The main problem is that it has been so windy and we have to go across the harbor and deal with wind and waves. It makes it a little worrisome when we are taking our computer. We usually get wet, but have been able to keep the computer dry, wrapped in a big plastic ziplock, then in the backpack, and that in a large black garbage bag. (Continued...)

Entering Elizabeth Harbor

We arrived yesterday (Fri, Mar 5) in Georgetown, Great Exuma. There are several anchorages in Elizabeth Harbor. We are anchored right now at Sand Dollar Beach. This picture shows Monument Beach named for the monument on top of the hill. It is also called Hamburger Beach. There are over about 350 - 400 boats here, in different anchorages, so it is a real cruisers community. There are regular planned activities. There is even more going on now as it is the 30th anniversary of the Cruisers Regatta. There is a morning cruisers net on the VHF radio that give weather, information, buying and selling things, and any announcements. New arrivals call in and you eventually get in touch with friends you made in the Bahamas or other locations earlier. We contacted George and Doreen on Delicia that we met last year in the Exumas. Needless to say, they are friends of Donna and Brian Nelson from Suttons Bay (boat After You). They are also friends of Donna and Rick on Lorbas that we have been traveling with. Delicia is in a different anchorage, but is planning on moving down by us today. (Continued...)
