Picture: Cygnus tied up in her home slip.
We were up at 0600 and underway by 0630. When we cleared the Frankfort breakwater the winds were out of the SSW at about 15 knots. The waves were higher than that amount of wind would justify, probably left over from higher winds last night. We were taking water over the bow and pounding into the waves. Because of our leak problem I placed towels under the leaks to prevent everything from getting wet again. Another boat, a trawler, was traveling in the same direction as we were, toward Big Sable Point, and making just a little better speed by maybe 0.1 of a knot. When they were about ½ mile ahead of us, and we were approaching the Latitude of Manistee, they suddenly turned directly towards Manistee. I guess they had enough of the conditions and decided to seek shelter. I wish we had that option. We have to push onward because I have to be at work on Wednesday, and we really need Tuesday to clean up the boat and load our vehicle with everything that needs to go home. Within ½ hour after the trawler gave up the conditions started to improve. The pounding stopped and our speed over the ground increased. The rest of the day was pretty routine. We arrived in Muskegon about 1930, pulled into our home slip, got tied up, and we are now relaxing and watching our first television in over a month. Tomorrow will be spent cleaning the boat and packing the vehicle.

I noticed this dinghy with twin antique outboards and stopped to talk with the owner. He restores antique outboards and also had a perfectly restored Johnson. He showed me an outboard that he had just acquired and it looked like junk. He assures me that it will end up looking just like it did in the dealer's showroom nearly 100 years ago!

I was disappointed that we couldn't stay here. This is an incredible improvement compared to the old marina.
