Tamarindo, Costa Rica not a cruisers paradise

06 July 2014 | Tamarindo, Costa Rica
Tamarindo is a pretty good surf spot. That also means that it's a pretty bad spot for the average cruiser. We needed to stop in Tamarindo to pick up a package that I had shipped down from the states. If it hadn't been for that, we would have moved on by now.

I've got dry eyeballs. The Papagayo winds are still blowing hard, even though they are not supposed to reach this far south. I guess nobody informed the wind god. The wind goes from 8 knots to 25 back down to 12 then up to 29, all within a few minutes and it lasts all day long.

Not only are the winds irritating, they are keeping us from going to shore. We can't bring the dinghy with the outboard for fear of flipping it in the surf and the wind is too strong to row all the way in. The locals get to their boats by surfboard. We don't have one. I guess we will wait until tomorrow when the wind is predicted to be down. In the mean time I'm going to find something to cry about so that I can stop listening to the scratching sound that my eyelids make every time I blink.
