Still Swinging on the Hook

Michael / Sunny and windy
Desert Vision is still swinging on the hook in the strong north winds. The swell has built all the way down the Sea of Cortez to six feet just out from our location and has begun curving around Punta Arenas de la Ventana and into our anchorage. I deployed the flopper-stopper this morning to slow the rocking as we are taking it to our beam. Iris made us tuna for breakfast and we have decided we are just a bit tired of tuna. But not the home canned type. I must get a pressure cooker and some mason jars so I can put some up. It is one of the most amazing ways to eat tuna that I have ever tried and it is so plentiful here! I also need to catch us a good bottom fish soon. We still have a little of the 39” Dorado that I caught on the last leg of the race and plenty of food left in the ship’s stores however, Iris will probably pick up butter, ice and a few other items when we sail back down to Sheila and Andrew’s. I have found that I am eating much less food and healthier meals now that we are cruising. In fact, if I am busy working or under sail, I often will not even get hungry all day before late afternoon. I have lost a total of thirty pounds of fat from my face and gut. From 210 to180lbs but I’m going to 175lbs with the thirty inch waist that I had in high school. Still thirsty for martinis, wine or crevezas at 4:30 pm though! I guess some things will never change huh?
We are getting ready to go ashore for the first time in a day and a half so, by-by for now.
After a nice long walk on the beach we noticed that the wind speed was reduced five or six knots as we neared the shore. So when we got back to the boat we pulled in the flopper stopper, weighed the anchor and dropped it again about an eighth mile off the beach. It is a little smother here and I doubt there is much chance of a wind shift in the next couple of days.
Tonight I will taxi some fellow cruisers with a broken dingy motor over to the restaurant. They tried to hail a panga unsuccessfully and there is very little chance that they could row their dingy against 21+ knots of wind so I volunteered for taxi. The tuna breakfast has not been agreeing with Iris all day long so, I don’t think we’ll be joining everyone at dinner.
Boy, I sure do miss all of you!!!
