Greenlandic Hospitality

Thursday we went out to the fjord supposedly for a few days but Friday we got a text from Lars Lennert Abelsen inviting us to join him and his family and friends to celebrate his winning 6 Gold Medals at the National Greenlandic Taekwondo Championships last weekend in Aasiaat. So we returned early and then joined them at Lars mother's house. Their hospitality was great and Mybritt, Lars' mother, makes excellent cocktails - Greenland Coffee, Copenhagen and Pink Pussy just for starters. We left them still partying at 1.30 am Saturday, conscious that we had a dingy ride back across the bay to Destiny in -9°C, clear starry skies with Northern Lights. Surprising how much we could see in the dark with the ground covered in snow now. Last night was quite unsettled with some strong gusts of wind, so a relatively disturbed night, Destiny going round in circles around the anchor as the wind couldn't make up its mind which direction to blow from.

Following our last blog, we were contacted by Martin Kokol from the Center for Arctic Technology and today met him and a friend Adam from the high school for coffee and cake and a tour of the facilities. They teach civil engineering in an Arctic environment, so building, heating, insulation and alternative power ie. hydro, wind and solar, which was very interesting. They have kindly offered to help store any items that need to be out of the extreme cold for us.

We have also had some kind and generous offers from friends. Obviously we are still juggling many balls at the moment and have an interview with the local Greenland Police tomorrow who act as Immigration Control.
